Introducing Photosymbols

Pictures for easy read

Photosymbols are a collection of images for making easy read information. The pictures come on a disc, and users place them alongside words in their own documents .

There are 2000 pictures in our main pack, and a further 200 pictures in Safe & Sound - a special edition about keeping safe, bullying and hate crime.

People

Photosymbols images feature a wide range of people. Most of the characters are acted by our models with learning disabilities, and there is a strong emphasis on equality and diversity.

There are pictures of people on their own and in groups; doing different things like working computers, visiting the doctor, shopping, or opening a bank account. Disabled people are shown as positive people, making choices, taking part and in control.

Things from the world around us

There are many other pictures showing things like:

• Objects, like a healthy meal, a pair of jeans or a minibus.
• Places, like the post office, train station or supermarket.
• Ideas, like access, planning and speaking up.

Images can be mixed and matched to explain hundreds of different ideas in a visual way.
