helping you make easier information
It's good to write short and simple. Wordclips are chunks of ready written easyread text. They are designed to give you a helping hand when you're writing easyread information. Simply select the text and paste into your document.
We all use jargon at times. Sometimes we even forget we're using it. Wordclips help explain difficult ideas and can be used to explain jargon. Use them inline (as part of your main text) or if you prefer, you can list them together in a glossary.
Wordclips are designed to work with photosymbols and templates, giving you a complete solution for producing your easyread. We also show which image or images you could use alongside each chunk of text.
Access is how easy a place or thing is for everyone to use. People often talk about using buildings but it can mean other things too. Things like transport, websites or books and reports.
Annual Health Check
Once a year people with learning disabilities can get a checkup from a doctor or nurse. The doctor or nurse will ask lots of questions about things like, how you feel and what you eat. They might do some health tests too. This test is to help you be healthy. It is called an Annual Health Check.
Benefits (not money)
Sometimes we do something and something good happens because of the work or thing we did. These good things that happen because of what we did are called benefits.
So the benefits of eating healthy food might be that you will lose weight.
Sometimes if people can't get a job or need help, the Government gives them money. The money is for food, paying for where you live and other important things. This money is called Benefits. There are lots of different types of benefits people can get. They can be for different things, like if you are disabled or if you have children.
Often bosses who pay for and run places have special bits of money they keep to one side to pay for things. These bits of money are called budgets. A place might have a travel budget and another budget to pay for heating and another for paying staff.
Bosses can plan how to spend their money better if they use and stick to their budgets.
Sometimes a clear part of peoples eyes - the lens can go cloudy.
This makes it hard for people to see properly. This is called a cataract.
If you have a cataract you can go to hospital to get the cataract taken away.
We are all part of different groups. Things like a family or a group of friends or people you spend time with. A person who lives in a city or a country is sometimes called a Citizen. If I lived in London I would be a citizen of London and the UK.
Sometimes, Councils and the NHS pay other organisations to run services or do jobs for them. This can be complicated. The person who decides which organisations to buy services from is called a commissioner.
Discrimination is when someone picks on you or doesn't give you the same chances as everybody else. This might be because of things like: the colour of your skin, if you're a man or woman, the things you believe in or if you are disabled. It is against the law to pick on people and discriminate against them.
Sometimes we need to look back at something and see how it went. We might want to see if the things we wanted to happen, did happen. We might want to see if there was anything that we could have done better. This looking back at things is called an Evaluation.
Sometimes if you go into hospital you might need to have something done inside of you. The Doctors might need to cut into you to put something right. It is important that you don’t feel any pain and that you are very still. To do this health workers will give you strong medicine that puts you to sleep. This is called a General Anaesthetic.
Sometimes people might pretend to be your friend. They might pretend to your be friend so they can steal money or things from you. They might want to tease you or hurt you to show off or because they think it's funny. If people you think are your friends do bad things to you this is a crime. It's called Mate crime.
