Editing an Easy Read pack with EasyMaker is quick, but that doesn’t mean you don't have control. Once EasyMaker creates a first draft for you, there are loads of simple ways to shape it into something that really suits your audience.
In this post, I'm sharing a short video with 5 quick editing tips, from choosing images to working with tricky terms, based on a real document I made using EasyMaker. In it I suggest you:
1. Choose the right tool for the job
Not every project needs to take up lots of time and effort. For quick, clear info, like this NHS heatwave advice, EasyMaker was the perfect fit.
2. Give your document a first read
Use your judgment. Your EasyMaker draft is a great starting point, but a few careful edits can elevate it.
3. Edit text and highlight important terms
Double-click into any paragraph to tweak the wording, and use bold to draw attention to tricky concepts like “heat exhaustion.”
4. Change images to suit your message
You can search the Photosymbols library, use favourites, or try suggested swaps to make sure your pictures support the story. Don't forget you can also generate images in EasyMaker.
5. Refer back to your source material
Once I'm happy with my document, I usually go back and double check the source material for any last minute tweaks to emphasis or details I may want to add.
