Pete on the Airwaves with People First KC

Something exciting happened this week. Our very own Pete Le Grys was invited as a special guest on the People First Keighley & Craven podcast.

The episode is part of their brilliant fourth season, which features conversations with people who are making a difference in the world of learning disability rights and inclusion. Pete fits right in of course. Over the years he’s played a huge role in shaping the Easy Read movement in the UK and beyond.

In the interview Pete chats openly about where the idea for Photosymbols came from, what it’s been like building a photo library that centres actors with learning disabilities, and how things are evolving with the launch of EasyMaker. There’s a lovely bit where he talks about the creative process - how ideas turn into powerful images - and how working directly with self-advocacy groups has helped keep the work grounded and real.

He also shares some honest reflections on what’s changed over the years, what hasn’t, and why the right tools used thoughtfully can help give people more choice and control in their lives.

It’s a great listen, funny in places, thoughtful in others - and definitely worth popping on during a walk or a coffee break. If you care about inclusion, accessible design, or just want to hear Pete doing what he does best - talking with warmth and purpose - then you’re in for a treat.

You can find the episode over at the People First KC website or on your favourite podcast app. Just search for Season 4, Episode 22 of the People First Podcast.
