What Happens to Personal Details in EasyMaker?

When you create Easy Read documents, you're often working with real information about real people. Names, addresses, NHS numbers, phone numbers - the kind of details that need to be handled carefully.

So when EasyMaker sends your text to AI to help create Easy Read, what happens to all that personal information?

The short answer: it never gets there.

How it works

Before your text goes anywhere, EasyMaker automatically finds personal details and swaps them out for placeholder labels. So "Sarah Johnson" becomes something like "[PERSON_1]" and "07834 556721" becomes "[UK_MOBILE_1]".

The AI does its work with these placeholders, then EasyMaker swaps the real details back in at the end.

Think of it like sending a letter with all the names blanked out, getting a reply, then filling the names back in yourself. The person who handled your letter in the middle never saw who you were writing about.

What gets protected

Names - including when they appear as "Sarah's" or "the Johnsons"

Contact details - email addresses, mobile and landline numbers

Addresses - street addresses, flat numbers, postcodes

Identity numbers - National Insurance, NHS numbers, driving licence numbers

Financial details - sort codes, card numbers

Dates of birth

This all happens automatically. You don't need to remember to remove anything or do any preparation - just paste in your text and EasyMaker handles the rest.

Reliable protection

EasyMaker uses a combination of pattern recognition and machine learning to catch personal details in all their different forms - whether someone writes their phone number with spaces, dashes, or no gaps at all. It even spots possessive forms like "Sarah's appointment" and protects those too.

Why this matters

Many of you work in health and social care, local authorities, and charities. You're creating Easy Read about real people's care, benefits, housing, and rights. The people in your documents are often vulnerable, and their privacy matters.

We built this protection because it's the right thing to do. You shouldn't have to choose between using helpful AI tools and keeping people's information safe.

So go ahead and paste in that referral letter or care plan. EasyMaker's got it covered.
